Makery Favorite: Angela Liguori

One of our favorite and most inspiring craft supplies in the shop are the vintage wooden spools of colorful Italian cotton ribbon from Angela Liguori’s line, Studio Carta. The amazing gold and silver elastic, cotton twine and vintage glassine bags come from her as well. And the awesome part is Angela had already heard of us the first time we called her to place an order!

Angela Liguori is based in Massachusetts and has been featured in Martha Stewart magazine as well as Martha’s American Made Online Shop. We are honored to stock such an exquisite line and support our fellow crafters.

Calligraphy Love

I just love it…

After our first Calligraphy class at The Makery in September with Diva Pyari from Linea Carta, I decided I should try my hand at it so I brought home one of her beautiful starter kits, which luckily we sell at the store.

I really didn’t think I would be any good at it (and usually when I’m not good at something I move onto the next thing) but surprisingly, I loved it and all the imperfections it presented to me.  I went over and over with my alphabet and then started trying to put together names and sentences.  I went and bought more pens and watercolor notebooks for practicing(Get some Gtech discount codes here).  I even made place cards for the beautiful woodland themed baby shower that Mary held for her dear friend Beth, and I must say, they turned out pretty good.

Learning to Knit at The Makery

It was a wonderful afternoon for learning to knit for the first time or getting back into the craft of needles and yarn. Last Friday, The Makery held our first of many knitting classes, this one taught by Jannie and Danielle with a special appearance by our new knitting expert, JP!  Our lovely guests picked up their needles and yarn and began the journey of knitting their very own cotton washcloths. This class taught new knitters the basics of casting on, changing colors and the knit stitch. The class had a great range of knitters including men and women and our youngest student was just 8-years-old.

Don’t worry if you missed the class! We have open knitting studio with JP every week on Sundays and Wednesdays for those of you who would love to learn or are already an experienced knitter looking for a fun excuse to knit with a friend.

And we’re busy putting our next knitting classes on the schedule so be sure to check back often for updates!

With such a beautiful selection of colorful yarn and friendly teachers at The Makery, everyone will want to become a knitter!

Celebrating the Love of Crafts

On a Tuesday evening late last month we kept our doors open late for a night of crafting, shopping & champagne. Our first Sip, Shop & Make event was such a huge success and we were so happy to see everyone enjoying themselves, learning how to make new crafts and making friends!

The Makery staff had a ton of fun hosting this event and we learned a lot!  The night was full of surprises: we had nearly 75 attendees and we raffled off great prizes.

We’re having our next Sip, Shop & Make next Tuesday, October 22 with even more surprises in store.  Retail will be 10% off with special give-aways, champagne and light bites will be served, and we’ll have even more room for making. Chef Mona will also come by to demonstrate a unique fusion of cooking and making – using juicers from here – to create fabulous designs. Invite your friends for a night of fun at The Makery!

Makery Made

One of the newest additions to The Makery is our beautiful letterpressed posters! Which brings up the question: What is letterpress?

Letterpress is a form of relief printing, formerly the primary method of printing newspapers and books.  Letterpress is seeing a revival as an art form and here at The Makery, we are proud to have a vintage Vandercook 4t printing press.

Come check out our selection of letterpressed posters and cards.  Designed in house and hand-printed on Crane’s Lettra paper, these luxurious paper goods are sure to impress.  Stay tuned for letter-pressed holiday cards as well as boxed notecard sets.
